Johnny Bear the Ami

Every now and again I reward myself by designing a bear. It is the most beloved subject in the world and it is very difficult to be original. I thought to combine shapes and techniques to make my bear stand out in the Amigurumi World.

When Johnny was all done I realized something was missing so I crocheted him a pair of pants and a mesh bag with a fish in. He is back home from a day out with his friends by the lake, you can tell from his happy smile that he had a good time.

Johnny Bear was featured in Simply Crochet Issue 73, July 2018

Carm Girl Bear the Ami

I thought to bring some of the learning of these years into this pattern. As I revised each section of the pattern I took special care not to change the original character, hoping you would love her new look.

Ollie Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, January 2017

I wanted to challenge myself and create an amigurumi with minimal sewing needed. I have come up with a pattern where just ears and muzzle are sewn on.

What I did not expect was that my experiments would turn into this cute bear. Does he not have an expression of “Please hug me tight!”?

Oliver Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, February 2016

When I design a new amigurumi, I spend time thinking about all the features. I study the dimension and the detail of the various parts, I search on the web to make sure my new character is not similar to others. Finally I make a sketch that becomes the pattern for me to follow. Oliver did not go through this process, or better to say, I was trying to make something else and he turned out instead. He is a mistake, however the most welcome one as he is the cutest thing I have ever created. Is he not adorable… I wish I had the age to play with him!

The pattern was featured in Simply Crochet Magazine, Issue 45 - May 2016

Schoolboy Bear the Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, November 2016

This little bear was designed at the beginning of my adventure in the Amigurumi World. I still like him and this year I have taken the time to re-write the pattern and put it in the current format of my recent works. I have made a few changes to the original pattern but overall I have not changed the original character.

Sean Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, May 2016

This bear is a dear character of mine which pattern has never been released until now. I have made several versions of him. Last year I made a football player, Nick, and sent it to Resobox 2015 World Amigurumi Exhibition in New York. He has not come back home after the exhibition as he found a new home there.
This year I have found the time to write the pattern and create Sean, Nick’s brother. I’m tempted to make a female version, but that will be another story …

Tino Bear The Ami

by Mary’s Amiland, December 2015

Tino Bear has been on my to do list for almost a year. It was worth waiting until now as when I started designing him all was ready and his character came into life smoothly.
He is a “Tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff" (from Winnie The Pooh’s song), don’t you think?

Nick Bear The Ami

by Mary's Amiland, October 2015

I have been selected as one of the amigurumi artists of World Amigurumi Exhibition 2015 at RESOBOX.
I feel so excited that my pieces will be part of their gallery!
In order to participate to the exhibition each artist must submit at least one amigurumi that shows a characteristic or feature of their country or local area.
I have decided to make a football player with the Italian team outfit. I got inspired by a photo of Andrea Pirlo who was wearing orange football sneakers.... love them!

Teo Bear The Ami

by Mary's Amiland, November 2014

Teo has been so much fun to design and I hope you will have as much fun at crocheting him. His outfit has been inspired by a famous American football team.
What I love of him is his funny expression, he makes me smile any time I look at him.

Teo was featured in Entwine The Crochet Magazine in December 2014 issue.
